Micaela & Evan’s Wedding Day

0225_0007_20120225_Micaela_Even_Wedding_Details- Social

It seems like every year we say the same thing, but it’s true, there’s something special about smaller intimate weddings.  Don’t get me wrong, I’d be more than happy shooting in the Waldorf but the truth is that you don’t need all the glitz and glam to have a gorgeous day. Give me two people who are madly in love and the rest simply falls into place.

Micaela is someone I met through the many times I’ve worked with The Doolin House. She’s a very sweet and creative girl who has become a top notch cake maker (even making me an Apple logo cake for my birthday last year).  Something that caught my attention through her wedding day was how much she actually created for her own wedding. Two things that really stood out were their cake and her bouquet, both of which she crafted herself…both of which were stunning I might add!

Below you’ll find a slideshow and a few of my favorite images from Micaela & Evan’s wedding day. Enjoy! Read more →

Meg & Brian’s Wedding Day : Wedding by Kentucky Photographer Wes Brown

I found myself killing time at Wal-Mart…at 10pm…on a weekday…

Why?

Because my potential client had miscalculated the time it took to get to Somerset. She was anxious to meet and from the email traffic I wanted to make it happen.

I’m glad my gut instincts paid off. Read more →

Taylor & Michael’s Wedding at Cave Hill Vineyard : Wedding by Kentucky Photographer Wes Brown

I have absolutely no idea where to start…and anyone who knows me knows that coming up with words isn’t usually an issue.

I guess we can start with a little boy coming over too play with my little brother when I was in high school and my friends and I executing flawless wrestling maneuvers on him. Fast forward several years and I’m meeting with that little boy’s fiance about becoming the photographer for their wedding. Thankfully Michael didn’t hold a grudge for a pile driver and a DDT. :)

Michael and Taylor are an unbelievably sweet couple. In truth they were married shortly after I initially met with them and before Michael went into the Marines. Since that time we’ve done an engagement shoot, a bridal portrait session, and now we have finally completed their dream wedding. It’s been a long journey and we’ve loved every second. Read more →

Krista+Jordan Carter’s wedding at The Barn at Red Gate : Kentucky Wedding Photographer Wes Brown

Sometimes people just click. That’s the best way I can describe Jordan and Krista.  It was obvious from the 1st time we ever met that they are stupid, head over heels in love. They click with each other and they’ve always clicked with us.

There are so many similarities between all of us that it’s impossible to keep track. From Jordan and my wife being in accounting, to a honeymoon in Jamaica, even down to Krista and Chrissa’s father’s having accidents merely days before the weddings that left a scar on their faces for the ceremony.  It’s eerie…not irie, but eerie.

Mr. and Mrs. Carter have been on our calendar for a very long time and it’s always been a wedding that I counted down the days too.  When you have a good rapport with a couple, the day flies by.  When it’s a couple that you’d hang out with regardless of the circumstances, the day is like a vacation.

This day was gorgeous, stress free, and even though I was exhausted when it finally came to a close…I was a little sad when it ended.

After a quick stop at the salon that Saturday, we were off to The Barn at Red Gate for everyone to get ready.  This was actually my 1st wedding at their facility and I will say it is top notch.  Not only is it beautiful outside, but I can’t see how you would want more from what they offer as a whole.

The guys commandeered one of the many televisions to watch football while getting ready. The ladies found themselves in a stunning mirror filled room where they could prepare to unleash fabulous on the world…they didn’t have football, but didn’t seem to mind too much.

The ceremony was outside in an elegant gazebo. Did I mention my wife and I were married in a gazebo? I’m just saying.

After a very touching ceremony, everyone moved inside for a reception that can only be described as awesome.  When you go from the hokey pokey to the Dougie…well, you know you’re doing something right.

Enough of me rambling about the day. Read more →

Ryan & Ayrica : The Kernstock Wedding by Kentucky Photographer Wes Brown : Pisgah Schoolhouse

0005_4205_20110730_Kernstock_Wedding

I know that I’m constantly saying how special each wedding is and I guess it’s true to some extent.  This was a wedding that I had looked forward to for so very long.  The family was such a pleasure to work with leading up to the big day and the couple is so remarkable and sweet.  Couple that with the fact that my wife and I were married at the Pisgah Schoolhouse gazeebo, just outside the church this wedding took place in and it makes for a teary eyed photographer.

When we arrived at Ryan’s grandparent’s home early that Saturday I was expecting the standard nervous groom, but it couldn’t have been further from what I expected.  Ryan was calm, but more than that he was ready. He wanted to be married and time was the only thing standing in his way.

Ayrica on the other hand was a bit nervous when we met her at the church in the afternoon. She is as sweet as can be, an amateur photographer who LOVES butterflies! Hopefully when our schedule calms down we can sit down and look through her work.

Our biggest obstacle for the day was weather.  Every minute seemed as though the sky was about to open up and pour water across us all.  During the ceremony black clouds covered the church and gave it the feel of dusk outside, giving everything a very intimate feel.  After the ceremony the weather held off just until we made it into the reception, then the monsoon came…however, when it was time for portraits, it dried right up.

I’m so very proud of Ryan, Ayrica, & their families. I will always be in their debt for letting us share in such an unbelievably touching day. Read more →
